COSRX Aloe Vera Oil-Free Moisture Cream Review
The moisturizer plays a crucial role in a person's skincare regimen, and this product is a strong contender for that role. Though COSRX's Aloe Vera Oil-Free Moisture Cream doesn't fully succeed to meet all the requirements of my combination skin, it does put up a strong performance.
Packaging and Product Description
COSRX's brand image focuses on affordability and minimalism, and the packaging of this product is a no-frills white with green accents. The frosted plastic container comes in a paper box and has a metallic lid. Of course, an ingredients list and cautionary advice are included on the paper box in English, but the container lacks extensive instructions, making it a bit harder for the beginner to follow.
With about 3.52 oz of product, this has produced is expected to last 3 to 5 months. As the product's viscosity is heavy, you don't need much to apply per session. However, it doesn't weigh down your skin as any viscous product would unless you apply it liberally; rather, its composition is quite similar to aloe vera gel both in look and feel. For sensitive noses, this product is suitable as there are no noticeable smells.
After 5 months of use in two vastly different seasons, I have come to the conclusion that this product will not be sufficient as a standalone product. Though there were some positive outcomes, such as slightly making my skin more even-toned.
I used this product twice or thrice a day. Most of the time, it's only a part of my morning and night routine, where I apply a larger amount during the night. However, sometimes, I also use it to patch up some dry areas.
Firstly, my summer experience was mostly pleasant. That's when my skin gets very oily, and this cream hits the spot in providing moisture without clogging up pores. Bar from the occasional stickiness I experienced during humid weather, the product functioned relatively well. However, the product wasn't sufficient in providing enough moisture for my drier skin in winter. There were times were applying the product would induce a slight burning sensation in my skin because the skin was too dry for the product to effectively mitigate.
This product was recommended to me specifically for my skin type, so I was rather hoping it would fill both of those gaps, but there are some unsatisfactory experiences that I would like to tweak.
There are indeed some ingredients one should be wary about. Personally, I don't believe that the controversial ingredient Butylene Glycol to be a carcinogen or a bad ingredient in general, and I personally like the highly hydrating properties and the homogenous texture it provides; however, if you have very irritative skin, I would advise talking to a dermatologist beforehand as it is indeed an irritant. A plus point, however, is the lack of alcohol and fragrances, which means it's less drying than other moisturizers.
I would recommend one to check this very extensively clarified ingredients list to be aware of other allergens before making a decision: https://cosmily.com/products/cosrx-aloe-vera-oil-free-moisture-cream
**I believe that this product may be better for some, especially other aloe vera lovers like me, however, this might not be my ultimate moisturizer solution or for other combination and dry skin types. Even though I am using my current product, I perhaps won't be buying the same product again and will look for alternatives: it's just not for my skin!
