#1 solvent in many skincare and haircare products. Usually, creams contain 40 - 70% of water, while toners and micellar water may have up to 90%. Manufacturers purify and deionize it before putting it into the product to make the formula last longer. As for the benefits, it is neither good nor bad. It's a neutral component itself, but it's a very important part of a product.

Water

The most widely used silicone. It improves skin condition a lot. It makes the skin smooth and pleasant to touch, gives it a healthy gloss and forms a protective barrier. It temporarily fills small fine lines and wrinkles hiding them and making your skin look better. In hair care products it's used as hair conditioning component. It smoothes the hair and gives them a very pleasant silky gloss. It protects the hair from aggressive surfactants like SLS.

One of the best-known humectants. It helps to hydrate skin very fast, but the effect doesn't last too long. That's why some people may feel dryness after 3 - 4 hours and have to re-apply skincare products once again. Works even in low concentrations but becomes very effective at 10 - 40% concentration. It's used in cosmetics for more than 50 years and it is researched very well. A great component to counter dryness!

Glycerin

It's a very popular solvent and viscosity controller. It also helps the components to absorb deeper into the skin and it is a humectant. It's considered to be safe and it is even used in food!

Very popular preservative. It has been used in cosmetics for a long time and it's very well researched. Considered to be safe for skin.

Phenoxyethanol

It is a preservative and product's formula stabilizer. In other words, it helps the product to stay in its original shape. It prevents the components from chemical reactions with each other. It also increases the penetration of the components. It is very well researched and considered to be safe.

Disodium EDTA

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

The most commonly used formula of Vitamin E in cosmetics. Do not confuse it with pure Tocopherol. Tocopheryl Acetate isn't as effective as Tocopherol, but it&rsquo;s more stable. It's a very good antioxidant.
