Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C): Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, is naturally present in a large number of fruits or vegetables. In fruits (oranges, kiwis, etc.), it is a powerful antioxidant which plays an essential protective role for vital functions. A gold standard anti-aging molecule for dermatologists, vitamin C plays an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory role. It regulates pigmentation, protects the collagen network structure, and supports synthesis of epidermal lipids to restore the skin barrier. Vitamin C is therefore an ally for tired skin as it brightens and smooths dull skin.
Salicylic Acid: Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxy acid that occurs naturally in many plants. The most renowned use of salicylic acid is to treat acne and treatments with salicylic acid have proven to reduce both the severity, as well as the number of acne lesions. In addition to decreasing blemishes, salicylic acid is also known to possess exfoliation properties, which may further increase skin smoothness. Coupled with its exfoliating component, salicylic acid is able to exterminate surface bacteria and reduce future breakouts. Furthermore, salicylic acid can also be used to treat signs of uneven skin tone and photoaging.
